Volunteer opportunity with CCI's Walk with a Doc program

CCI Health & Wellness Services recently launched a ‘Walk With a Doc’ program in College Park during which three clinicians (a Pediatrician, a Family Medicine Doc, and a Family Nurse Practitioner) lead a walking group for patients and community members alike.
The program meets the 2nd Saturday of every month from 9am–10am, just down the road from UMD’s campus in College Park (5211 Campus Drive, College Park, MD 20740). The clinicians briefly discuss a health topic with participants and the remaining time is spent walking together along the Northeast Branch Trail and around Lake Artemesia.

CCI is looking for students to join them along the walk or recruit community members that they are in touch with through research or volunteer programs. The walks are a great way to get out and moving on a Saturday morning and to join a group of community medical providers who are passionate about the positive impact of nature and physical activity on mental and physical health!

Join us for the First Friday Seminar Series with Dr. Jette on October 4th

Join us for the First Friday Seminar Series! This is a great opportunity to gain insight into the research being conducted across the department.
In her upcoming presentation, Dr. Jette will discuss her ongoing research agenda focused on physical cultural studies of embodiment and risk. She will talk about her evolving understanding of these concepts (embodiment and risk) as they relate to research she has conducted on prenatal exercise and maternal health, as well as pedagogy in the Kinesiology classroom. She will also discuss their centrality to the fields of Public Health and Kinesiology, and reflect upon the challenges posed and potentials offered by these concepts as we seek to intervene into sites of physical cultural injustice and promote a more equal—and healthier—society.
